UX design and motion graphics for a Spotify feature that reintroduces the charm of making meaningful personal mixtapes for loved ones.

Cassette Mixtapes used to be hugely popular for sharing music, emotions, and personal expression. However, they are no longer popular. They were replaced with more convenient ways from CDs to digital streaming platforms. Although platforms like Spotify benefit users with convenience and speed, users lose the charm of making and receiving a personalized mixtape.

Problem

The short-term goal is to reignite the charm and intentionality of the nostalgic mixtapes in the digital space. The long-term goal is to get people to have connections through music by creating a new format for sharing and gifting music like how they did in the 80s.

Objective

The solution is to meet the younger generation in the digital landscape on Spotify (known for innovative personalization). Launching seasonally, like Spotify Wrapped, or as a permanent feature, the new Spotify feature can guide users through the traditional techniques to make a mixtape to share with their loved ones. It will have short motion graphics for both the user creating and the user receiving the mixtape to introduce and immerse them in the concept.
